When planning a visit to Geraldton and the Mid-West, St Francis Xavier Cathedral is a natural first stop on your tour. Located at the heart of the city, the Cathedral precinct offers a café for fabulous refreshments and the informative Monsignor Hawes Visitor Centre where you can find out about the life of our Priest-Architect and also book a tour of the magnificent Cathedral.
Once you have discovered something of the life of Monsignor Hawes, there are numerous other buildings designed by him in the Mid-West region. The most notable being the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Mullewa, just an hour in land and home to the most spectacular show of wildflowers in the springtime. Closer to the centre of Geraldton, you will find the Hermitage and Nazareth House. If you plan on heading north, the churches in Northampton and Carnarvon are also well worth visiting.
No visit to Geraldton would be complete without a visit to the HMAS Sydney Memorial, both to view the city and to hear the story of the ship. The city also boasts a superb museum located by the relaxing marina, a short stoll from the sweeping foreshore.
