Friday Fast

Friday Fast is a mission and an act of mercy towards the needy by abstaining a cup of coffee, a slice of cake or even one or two meals and donate the cost of those items. As many drops make an ocean, collecting and accumulating small amounts of these donations, make us capable of extending our hands to the most needy. 

The idea is to donate the price of a cup of coffee, or a Friday treat, to help an underprivileged mission or village somewhere in the world. You can find the Friday Fast envelopes in our Parish Churches and return it with your generous contribution whether it is small or big. Bring it to the next Mass at your convenience and simply put it in the collection bowl.

Anybody can be a part of this great ministry by making monetary donations, and yet no matter how small it is, can be put in an envelope and placed in the collection plate each weekend.! Friday Fast envelopes are available at the Church entrance at all Catholic Parishes in Geraldton.

Family Friday Fast has been operating in our parishes since 1995. Initially a committee was formed, however  members have left for various reasons. However Mrs Yvonne Krummenacher carried on with this project on her own for a very long time followed by Mrs Yvonne Fahl. Currently  Mrs Jan Bowen is coordinating this ministry. 

Over many years, Friday Fast has generously provided funds for food and basic medical supplies for many families throughout the developing world. This year, we are assisting the Flamme D’amour Orphanage in Democratic Republic of Congo through the Pallotines and the Athiolget Women’s and Children’s Health Clinic in South Sudan through its founder. This means that the desperately needed funds all go straight to the orphanage and the village with no administration costs.

News and photos are sent back to Geraldton from each Project undertaken and it is wonderful to see how money sent to Missions can help desperate people in many ways, especially the children.
